Madison Spence makes figurative and sculptural works inspired by her Filipina-Japanese American heritage and an abiding fascination with the fantastical. By navigating the dynamic interplay between the tangible world and the vivid fragments of her daydreams, she is able to find momentary respite from the difficulties of reality by creating spaces of joy and imagination. 

Born in Columbus, Ohio in 2001 and raised in Littleton, Colorado, Spence is a multidisciplinary ceramic artist currently based in Basalt, Colorado. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Colorado, Boulder in July 2024 with a BA in studio arts, specializing in ceramics, alongside a BS in strategic communication with a focus on media design, and a minor in Spanish. Spence eagerly seeks immersion in varied communities to expand her artistic practice, with plans to pursue an MFA to deepen her creative exploration.
